For Personal Responsibility

From Frank Erickson of Minneapolis, letter in Monbday Pioneer Press, "U.S military (our troops) is killing anyone who picks up items like plastic explosives or ammunition...items that the U.S. military scattered about as bait." We have already heard this kind of garbage from John Kerry, John Murtha, Michael Moore, Sean Penn and most of the liberal establishment. I would expect this from the New York Times or Startribune but not from my dear friends at the Pioneer Press. I report and U decide.

God grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyways,
The good fortune to run into the ones I do,
And the eyesight to tell the difference.
Amen.

...by way of Ruben Rosario Pioneer Press Sunday October 14. "When a stone is dropped into a lake it quickly disappears from sight. But it's impact leaves behind a seris of ripples that broaden and spreads accross the water. In some way the impact of one life lived for Christ will leave behind an influence for good that will reach the lives of many others". Kevin Hassett sez...Democrats came into power this year promising meaningful earmark (pork barrell) reform to control Congress's free-spending habits. Congress is now even less popular in national polls than the Republican one before it. Democrats have been so busy preparing the coronation of Hillary Clinton that they have failed to train a critical eye on her spending. The Clinton campaign refused to respond to requests that she identify her earmarks. She placed $2.2 billion in earmarks to her home state of New York from 2002-2006, used to buy a lot of votes. On the other side, Senator John McCain has submitted no earmark requests.

Federal debt is about 63 percent of the current gross domestic product (GDP) which is less than it was during President Clinton's term and way below the all-time peak of 120 percent set during world war II. That's a lot, but has been worse and we survived.
The best way to control spending, especially ear-mark or pork barrel spending, would be the with line item veto. Bill Clinton had that from 1996 to 1998 and applied vetos 82 times and with that was able to create a balanced budget. The line item veto was passed by a republican congress with roll call of 61 yea and 39 nay votes, with all nay votes cast by Democrats. Two years later the bill was declared unconstitutional by the supreme court.
