For Personal Responsibility

..."It's true that Iraq is an unpopular war, but hostility to George W. Bush, or to the war, hasn't spilled over onto the military. The only place you find mistrust, resentment and misunderstanding is among some liberal elites. In Fact, in most civilian communities there appears to be pretty unambiguous admiration for the military."

Oprah Winfrey has anointed Barack Obama as her "choice" in '08. By the sound of over 20 million clicking TV remotes, she can determine the votes of her fans. SHOULD AN ENTERTAINER HAVE SUCH POWER? Is her judgement that much better than mine? She should share her platform with me and allow me to reply. There are many other people I would go to for advice other than Michael Moore, Sean Penn (close and personal friend of Huga Chavez), Jane Fonda(Hanoi Jane), George Clooney, Rosie O'Donnel(all mouth and no brains) and most of Hollywood. They have an inordinate amount of influence over the liberal voters. In 1992 Hollywood voted 83% for Bill Clinton and they have a venue to spread their message to thousands of gullible voters. That's too much power for a small group of drug crazies to have.

Examples with date, writer's name and quotes.
Pioneer Press Aug 18,2007 written by Tom Hammond, Woodbury, MN. "Rove is a ruthless political operative and employed the most devious and dishonest methods etc" Regarding President Bush "...an arrogent, incompetent buffoon etc."
Pioneer Press August 18,2007 written by Alan Anderson of Vadnais Hgts ..."Kerry failed to vote because he was ascared he would flip flop.
Star Tribune August 19,2007 written by David Crockett, Minneapolis. "...were the puppetmaster's (Karl Rove) limited by his puppet (President Bush) with only a wooden head?"
I, Alan Anderson, call that real high class and petty.

As told by Edward Lotterman, Pioneer Press columnist. Regarding e-coli and trans-fats contamination of food and maintaining the safety of food. "Governments generally should not act when private markets meet society's needs. When markets fail, government action may improve things. Government actions are not invariably successful, however, and often produce unintended consequences."
Also said in different words by economist Thomas Sowell "There are no solutions, only trade-offs." This can easily apply to our current smoking van.
Our own new congressman, Keith Ellison, is preparing a bill to disallow credit card companies to charger higher interest to a high risk individual. This would result in refusal for credit to that individual or higher interest rate for those of good credit score.
New York City is first to ban trans-fats, while at the same time, looking at food labels, most say 0 trans fats, shows that the market adjusts itself to our needs. While the conservative encourage personal responsibility, the liberals say "just pass a law"

We bent today over the coffined form, And our tears fell softly down: We looked down upon the aged face With it's look of peace, it's patient grace, And hair like a silver crown.
Again it is the painful duty of the Item to chronicle the passing of another of Carbondale's old and respected citizens, this time that of Mrs. B.J. Grubb.
Sarah Jane Housel was born in Sagerstown PA. August 30th 1828 and died at Carbondale, Colorado, January 5th, 1916, having reached the ripi old age of 87 years, 4 months and six days.
On July 10th 1845 Sarah Jane Grubb and Edmund Grubb were united in marriage from which union eight children came, four of whom are still alive. Eugene H. Grubb, Mrs. Alberta L. Sebree, both of Carbondale. W.L. Grubb of Santa Ana Calif. and Mrs. Josephine Sylvester of Minneapolis Minn.,all of whom have "silver threads among the gold", which reminds them that they too are approaching sunset age.
Mr. and Mrs. Grubbs removed to Mankato, Minnesota in the year 1887 until the death of the husband which occured in the year 1900. Mrs. Grubbs then came to Carbondale and had since made her home with daughter Mrs. A.L. Sebree.
She had always enjoyed good healty up to four weeks ago when she sustained a serious injury in a fall since which time she has been confined to her bed suffering intently but patiently.
Death came at 7 O'clock P.M. , when the crimson glow of the evening sunset tinted the western skies. Surely a fitting time for a spirit to takes its flight heavenward.
With the eye of faith one could see at the close of this bleak January day an invisible hand beckon and a voice in softest accent on the evening breeze , announce that the gates were open God's angels were awaiting to escort her in.
Impressive funeral services were held from the Sebree home Friday at one o'clock, the last words being spoken by Reverand O.M.Bowman following which came the slow sad journey to the silent city of the dead.
Always kind, chearful and considerate under all circumstances --she seemed born to inspire the love and respect of all who were so fortunate as to be aquainted with her.
No one was more willing to aid the suffering, cheer the desponding, assist the falling, sustain the weak, and to throw over the frailties of our race the Christian charity, and when sickness, suffering and death came to her, as it comes to all neighborsand friends vied with each other in acts of kindness--loving kindness and tender solitude, and many were the willing hands and hearts ready to assist those upon whom rested the heavy responsibility of attempting to fight back the ravage of illness--to avert the inevitable--and in whom were united the devotion of a friend, the untiring skill and watchful careof a concientious, painstakein physician, but love and skill were of no avail owing to the advanced age. The destroyer had placed his signeton her brow, and today hundreds who loved her living are mourning her dead.
To her the struggles and burden bearings on this earth are ended.
The floral offerings were profuse, and their beauty grand, being mostly pink--that being the favorite colour of Gramma Grubbs.
She is gone! Anothername is stricken from the ever lessening roll of our old folks, but it must be so. These tender humanities cannot be separated without a pang. Yet in such a death there is no cause for grief --her work was done, well fone. Few of us will live as long and as well, and fewer yet will the Angel of Death greet with such a loving touch.
Tender sympathies are extended to those that suffer her loss.
Gramm Grubbs was great-great-grandmother of my dear friend Ronny Novak who passed over the river several years ago.
