For Personal Responsibility

WHO TO CONTROL TRANS FAT ?

Wednesday morning on FM107 A Morning Breakfast by Ian and Margery Punnett they discussed the ingestion of trans fats in food.
In order to control trans fats there are two points of view. Be responsible and make your own choices or blame McDonalds. The term "personal responsibility" was used several times by callers to describe the fact that parents should control the use of trans fats by their children. With every right and privelege there is a corresponding duty and responsibility. This is the conservative way.
The liberal way is to "pass a law" to control McDonalds and pass the responibility to them.

 DEMOCRATS HAVE THE FLOOR

American voters gave Democrats the floor--- and are now waiting to hear what they have to say, especially about Iraq.

 COUNTRY SONG ABOUT ABORTION.

IT AIN'T SAFE TO BE NO WOMB DWELLER.

Today, I saw you on the ultra sound,
You sure ain't very big around,
Warning! Warning! Little Feller,
It ain't safe to be no womb dweller.

Since your Momma took the notion,
She can kill you without commotion,
And I ain't got no say about your life,
Cause your Momma, she ain't my wife.

But how can they call it "prochoice"
When me and the little feller got no voice?
The Supreme court sez it's a woman's right.
SO DEAR SON, GOOD NIGHT.

 PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION

The federal law passed by congress in 2003 and signed by President Bush , bans the procedure known medically as "intact dilation and extraction" which typically occurs in the second trimester of pregnancy or later. It generally involves the breech delivery of a fetus (helpless live baby), followed by the collapsing of it's skull to permit removal.(I'm glad no one crushed little Olaf's head)

The roll call on this bill was:
Senate Republicans 48 yea and 4 nay.
Senate Democrats 16 yea and 30 nay.
House Republicans 218 yea and 4 nay
House Democrats 63 yea and 139 nay.

If it had been necessary to make a choice between Jill and little Olaf, who's to make the choice? Mother, father, doctor or God. Not me I hope.

Roe v Wade provides for abortion thru the second trimester and at that time it amounts to partial-birth abortion. Right now the bill is before the supreme court for consideration. As expected the supreme court's most liberal members, Justices John Paul Stevens, David Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer are opposed to the statute.

Partial-birth abortion bills were vetoed by President Clinton on 4/10/1996 and 10/10/1997.

The writer has presented the facts without giving an opinion and now, with the previous discussion in mind, the reader may form his or her own learned opinion.

 EARMARK OR PORKBARREL SPENDING

Earmark is a bill meant to finance a particular project at a particular location for a given number of taxpayers dollars,a.k.a. prokbarrel spending. The idea of directing federal money to specific local projects came originally from Rep. John Calhoun (D-S.C.) when he proposed the Bonus Bill of 1817 to construct highways linking the East and South of the United States to it's Western frontier.

At the present time it is used equally by politicians of both parties at every opportunity. Earmarking became notorious in 2005 when $223 million was earmarked to construct a bridge nicknamed the "Bridge to Nowhere", to connect an Alaskan town of 8,900 to an island of 50 inhabitants (saving a short ferry ride).

According to the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service, the number of earmarks has grown from fro 4,115 valued at $ 29 billion in 1994 to 14,211 worth $53 billion in 2004.

With the backing of President Bush, Republicans in congress have introduced H.R.4964 The Earmark Control Bill of 2006, sent to committee March 15 2006 and is still waiting for action. Another bill meant to control spending is H.R.4890 The Line Item Veto Act of 2006, supported by most Republicans and few Democrats. Passed by house majority and now waiting for senate action.
