For the year 2005 I paid tax on 55% of my social security benefits amounting to $1620. I expected to pay that tax and also expected the money to be directed to the social security trust fund. That's not the case as my money went instead to the general fund. Can we do something about that? How about AARP.

PACs are a big item in influencing our politicians to vote a particular way, and this is the case with both parties. I believe that any PAC giving more than 90% to one party actually owns that party and that party won't bite the hand that feeds them. Among those of the top 20 PAC donors in the nation that give over 80% to one party, there are seven to the Democratic party and one to the Republican party. They are Int'l Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 93%, American Federation of St/Cnty/Munic Workers 98%, Machinists/Aerospace Workers Union 98%, Labirers Union 83%, Assn. of Trial Lawyers of America 95%, Teamsters Union 93% and Ironworkers Union 81%, all owners of the Democratic Party. One PAC contributor that is virtually unknown is The National Beer Wholesalers Assn. who give 80% to the Republican Party.
The best example is the trial lawyers who control the Democratic party and they repay by voting aganst all legislation, by party line, having to do with tort reform.
We frequently hear about the American Medical Assn, and the pharmaceutical manufacturers owning the Republican party giving 69% and 73% to the Republican party. That's not even close to 90%.

"One of my favorite (and often used) bits of political wisdom comes from a Democrat. Adlai Stevenson, who twice lost the presidency to Dwight Eisenhower. Steven said (paraphrasing from memory, here). ' I need the vote of every thinking American- and a few more so I have a majority.'"
